United Nations Founded

The United Nations is established following WWII to promote global peace and security.

First UN Military Observer Deployment

United Nations Peacekeeping began when the Security Council authorized the deployment of UN military observers to the Middle East.

First UN Peacekeeping Mission

The United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) is deployed during the Suez Crisis, marking the beginning of UN peacekeeping.

Nobel Peace Prize Awarded

The UN Peacekeeping Forces receive the Nobel Peace Prize for their service in maintaining global peace since 1956.

CPVA Founded

The Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association (CPVA) is established in Kingston, Ontario, as a national, all-veteran, volunteer organization.

Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal

CPVA’s advocacy contributes to the establishment of the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, recognizing peacekeeping contributions.

National Peacekeepers' Day

Following CPVA’s advocacy, 9 August is officially designated as National Peacekeepers’ Day in Canada.

CPVA launches the PK75 Anthology to commemorate 75 years of UN Peacekeeping and honour Canadian contributions.
