Miramichi Chapter
The Miramichi, NB, Chapter of the CPVA hosts a regular series of get-togethers
for their members, and participates in a variety of Veteran-related events
throughout the year.
Canada Day 2018
The Miramichi Chapter was approached by the RC Legion Br
#10 to see if we would be interested in carrying the Canadian
flag that was to be raised in Honor of Canada Day. The flag was a
16×8 foot flag that once flew atop the Peace Tower at Parliament
Hill in Ottawa. We paraded the flag from the RC Legion parking
lot to the flag pole at waterfront park. Ten members were
honored to have the opportunity to accept this request.
The members who volunteered were: Ray Kokkonen (flag
party commander), Ed Oursien, Paul Matheson, Roy Matheson,
Marcel Thibodeau, Leo LeBlanc, Al Malley, Joe Kelly, Ray Savoy
and Terry Scott.
Following the flag raising ceremony, the flag carriers headed for the marshaling area to set up our float for the Canada Day parade.
Mel McGraw made arrangements with L J Patterson Sales for the use of one of their flat deck trailers. It was a great day for a parade
with the streets lined with spectators.
